Mark Von Erich promoting High Voltage match at National Guard Armory
(Seguin) — The name will speak for itself this weekend as legendary wrestlers step into the ring here in Seguin. Mark Von Erich, who hails himself as a cousin of the famous Dallas Texas wrestling family and most recognizable set of brothers in the 80s and early 90s, is promoting United Wrestling Entertainment’s High Voltage Pro Wrestling this Saturday night at the National Guard Armory.
After having been away from the wrestling world for some time, Von Erich says he felt it was important to not only promote the sport but to also get back in the ring himself.
“I’m in my 60s so you know that I’m from that old school family right there from the Dallas Sportatorium (the Mecca of Pro Wrestling in Texas). I’m part of that family and I still got it. I mean I train. I condition. I’m in amazing shape. I really am. I really train hard. I stay conditioned. I’ve never let myself get out of condition and I can still throw down with the best of them,” said Von Erich.
In his quest to promote the best shows possible, Von Erich says he is bringing some of the best legendary names out there.
“This is a great group of wrestlers, and we call it High Voltage because when this group comes to your town to wrestle, they put on a show. They are high energy. They do a lot of flying. They do some acrobatic stuff and then they’ve got a lot of wrestling that goes along with it,” said Von Erich. “I’m doing the main event and I’m a legend here in the state of Texas. We’ve also got Dapper Dan coming. Cowboy Cliff is going to be there. Gatekeeper is going to be there. We’ve got a full six matches. It’s usually going to last two to two and half hours.”
Von Erich says he takes pride on showcasing old school wrestling – wrestling that is designed for the whole family and does not promote foul language or other inappropriate behavior. More importantly, he says this weekend’s show will support and assist the National Guard Armory with its recruitment efforts.
Tickets for the High Voltage wrestling match are $20 general admission: $10 for kids ages 3-12. Ringside tickets are also available for $35. Bell time is at 7 p.m. Saturday. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. The National Guard Armory in Seguin is located at 1002 S. Guadalupe near the Seguin Coliseum.
