Teachers to take the lead in this year's Holiday Stroll Parade in Seguin

Mayor Dodgen names Teachers of the Year in Seguin, Guadalupe County as this year’s parade marshals

(Seguin) – Some of Guadalupe County’s best teachers will be leading the way during this year’s 30th Annual Holiday Stroll Parade in downtown Seguin.

Seguin Mayor Donna Dodgen has chosen Teachers of the Year in the City of Seguin and Guadalupe County to serve as this year’s 2022 parade marshal. The parade is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday on Austin Street.

Dodgen says after attending the Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce Luncheon honoring the 2021-2022 Teachers of the Year, it made this year’s selection easy.

“Teachers face many challenges today and continue to put our children first, knowing that education changes lives. Teachers made an impact on my life in many ways, and I want all educators to be celebrated. Help me honor our teachers – as you watch our Grand Marshals in the parade, please take a moment of gratitude for the teachers who make daily impacts on our kids,” said Dodgen.

The Holiday Stroll Parade will feature entries from local and area businesses and organizations – all will be decked out in lights to celebrate the upcoming holidays.

After the parade, Dodgen is inviting the community to gather in Central Park for the annual tree lighting by Mayor Dodgen. There The mayor will also announce the winners of the parade and the Christmas Tree Decorating Contest.

Dodgen says she is not only excited about teachers leading the way, but she is excited about the new expanded parade route.

City officials says after so many years, this will be the first time there has been a change to the parade route.

The growth of the event has extended the parade route to the Seguin Events Complex, similar to the Biggest Small-Town Fourth of July Parade. Spectators are encouraged to find their favorite viewing spot on Austin Street, between College Street and Guadalupe streets.

Staging areas for parade participants will be on College Street. At the conclusion of the parade, participants are asked to disband their parade entry in the Seguin Coliseum parking lot.

Folks this year are also being asked to not park anywhere on Austin Street this Thursday after 5 p.m.

The parade, which kicks off two nights of downtown holiday fun, begins at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1. The route officially begins at the intersection of College and Austin streets.
