Navarro Panthers Meet Lago Vista in UIL Class 4A Regional Semifinals Today on KWED

(Hutto) — The UIL Class 4A Region IV Division 2 Semifinals are here today for the Navarro Panthers.

Navarro will meet District 13-4A rival Lago Vista in Hutto this afternoon. The Panthers got to the semifinals by routing Pearsall 50-8 in the Bi-District Round and taking down Bishop 28-14 in the Area Round. Meanwhile the Vikings reached the semifinals by blasting Bandera 67-6 in Bi-District and stomping Sinton 42-7 in their Area match-up.

The Panthers beat Lago Vista 42-21 on the road back on October 7th in the district opener.

Navarro has been to the Regional Finals in each year head coach Rod Blount has been at the helm and this year it’s a district rival standing in the way of Navarro in their quest to get there in Blount’s 5th season. Should the Panthers beat Lago Vista again and reach the finals, another district opponent will be waiting.

In the other regional semifinal, it’s a battle between district foes Jarrell and Wimberley. All four District 13-4A teams that made the playoffs swept the other districts in the Bi-District and Area rounds. Blount spoke with the other coaches in the district and he says they’re all proud to be apart of history.

“They all talked about how special it was and that they had never been apart of it before. And then (we) saw that Dave Campbell put something out this past week. I think there is only one other district in 11-man football that has all four of them in. But we have some great coaches in the district. All of them have a lot of playoff wins and they’re doing a great job of keeping it going.”

The Panthers will also look to avoid another rematch loss in the playoffs today. Navarro lost to Cuero in the playoffs last year after beating them in the regular season. In 2019 and 2020, the Panthers defeated Wimberley in the regular season but were eliminated by the Texans in the playoffs each year.

Today’s semifinal between Navarro and Lago Vista has an afternoon kickoff at 1:30 at Hutto Memorial Stadium. We’ll have the game for you here on KWED. Our pre-game show starts at 1 p.m where we’ll talk more with coach Blount on the Navarro Panther Report. It’s all here on AM 1580 and streaming online world-wide at SeguinToday.com.
