Take a seat at The Table

Take a seat at The Table

Seguin giving thanks by hosting a free Community Thanksgiving Meal

(Seguin) – Whether it’s on Thursday, Sunday or both, the city of Seguin is doing its part to ensure that everyone enjoys a warm holiday meal this Thanksgiving weekend.

Thanks to a team of local churches, organizations and businesses, the community is inviting families to The Table – A Community Thanksgiving Meal this Sunday, Nov. 27 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Seguin Coliseum.

One of the many coordinators of this free meal is Danna Meyers. Meyers says the idea is simple and that’s to come out and enjoy a turkey meal that has been prepped by community volunteers.

“There are going to be 1,500 plates served that day. So, it’s first come, first serve so anyone is welcome to come especially if someone is in need of food. We encourage them to come and it’s going to be a time of community, of gathering and everyone will be welcomed. It will be a time of fellowship too,” said Meyers.

City of Seguin officials say, “Thanksgiving is a time for people to gather, count blessings, and express gratitude.”  Meyers says it’s for this reason that this great band of volunteers has rolled up its sleeves and is preparing The Table for turkey, dressing and all the fixings.

“Years ago, there used to be a Thanksgiving meal in Seguin, and I don’t know how long ago but I know for the past several years because of COVID, it did not take place and so the city asked a group of people to start organizing one for this year so that’s how it started,” said Meyers.

Seguin Mayor Donna Dodgen is also extending a personal invitation for this Sunday’s meal.

“This event is something we hope the community can enjoy together and take pride in,” said Dodgen. “We look forward to serving and enjoying the company of a wide range of residents – from the youngest to those who are lifelong residents of Seguin. This is a wonderful opportunity to get to know your neighbors and help build unity in our community.”

It’s been a team effort to coordinate the complimentary meal. But together, Meyers says the community has answered the call.

“Everyone has been very gracious and very helpful in making it happen. So, it’s been a pleasure to be able to be a part of the committee that is planning this,” said Meyers.

No registration is required to come out and enjoy the free meal. Volunteers will also be on hand hosting a number of activities for children. The Seguin Coliseum is located at 950 S. Austin St.
