SEGUIN, Texas — Texas Lutheran volleyball has been selected for its third appearance in the NCAA Tournament after earning the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference’s automatic qualifier by winning their first SCAC Championship on Saturday. The bracket was revealed Monday afternoon on ncaa.com.
The Bulldogs will travel to Claremont, California, for the opening three rounds starting on Thursday, November 10. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps – the national No. 1 seed – will play host to Texas Lutheran, Fontbonne, UC Santa Cruz, Chicago, Trinity, and Puget Sound.
TLU will face University of Chicago in the first round Thursday at 12:30 PM PST/2:30 PM CST. The Maroons enter the tournament with a 19-12 (5-2 UAA) record after winning the University Athletic Association (UAA) conference championship.
The Bulldogs head into the tournament 27-9 and 11-5 in SCAC play. The Bulldogs finished fourth in the SCAC before winning the SCAC Conference Tournament to earn one of the SCAC’s two bids.
This will be the first NCAA Tournament appearance for Texas Lutheran under head coach Phyllis Fowler, the 2022 SCAC Coach of the Year, and the first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2007. Texas Lutheran is 2-2 all-time in the NCAA Tournament – advancing to the Regional Final in 2004, by defeating Christopher Newport and Trinity.
