(Seguin) – Last minute campaign pitches continue for Seguin City Council candidates in District 3. Today, the Seguin Daily News offers the two candidates in this race the opportunity to share why they are the best person for the job. Those candidates seeking the position are Jim Lievens and Darius Gil. Both are seeking the seat currently held by Chris Aviles, who decided not to seek re-election.
The following comments being shared by both gentlemen were recently made during the Seguin Radio KWED Saturday Topic Program.
Lievens, who has previously served on the council prior to Aviles, says he is committed to continuing his 30-year history of servant leadership and is determined on making sure all voices are heard and taken into careful consideration.
“I think what you will get is you will get a servant leader, somebody who will seek input, try to understand exactly what are the needs of all citizens and then someone who will speak out on it. I’ve hit on the other aspects in the other questions is again the experience factor — thirty years of servant leadership and the relationships that come with that. Again, those are factors you would use to hire somebody. Those are factors that you should use to elect an individual to a political office. Again, I’m going to say it again. I am someone who will speak out. I will represent people. Their voices will be heard,” said Lievens.
Born and raised in Seguin, Gil says he believes he’s ready to tackle the challenges facing the city’s future such as the fast rapid growth. He says his hope is to make Seguin a place where the younger generation “will want to raise their families and build their futures.”
“I will be accountable. I’ll serve with integrity, and I will stand behind my decisions. As of now, all I can say is I humbly ask for your vote. I look forward to serving you guys and when I do take this seat, I will always keep the best interest in mind not only for my district but for the entire city of Seguin,” said Gil.
Also appearing on the Nov. 8 ballot for the city will be the race for Seguin City Council District 8. Residents living in District 8 are also seeking new representation. Those candidates seeking the position are Bill Keller, Eddie Davila and Steven Berger.
