Marion Volleyball to Compete in Bi-District Tonight, Navarro Opens Bi-District on Tuesday

(Cuero) — The UIL  volleyball playoffs start this week for area volleyball teams. The Marion Bulldogs take on Industrial tonight at 7 p.m. at Cuero High School in a Class 3A Region IV Bi-District match. Marion finished second behind Randolph in District 26-3A with a district record of 10-2. Overall, Marion was 15-15 on the season.

The young Marion Bulldog volleyball team only has two seniors on the roster. One of those senior leaders is outside hitter Hayley Mabee. Mabee along wtih sophomore setter Bristin Birdwell and junior setter Kacee McLendon have made big contributions to the team this year.

Industrial finished third in District 25-3A with a 10-6 record in district play. The Cobra volleyball team was 19-26 overall during the regular season.

(Seguin) — The Navarro Lady Panthers will take on La Vernia in the Class 4A Region IV Bi-District round tomorrow at 6 p.m. at Goldie Harris Gym in Seguin. The Lady Panthers finished fourth in District 27-4A with a 7-5 record. Navarro was 18-21 overall on the regular season.

A pair of sisters, junior hitter Taylor Helms and sophomore hitter Morgan Helms, lead the Lady Panthers on the front line. Senior Ryanne Hepp has been a solid blocker on defense for Navarro as well. The Lady Panthers have five seniors on this year’s roster.

La Vernia was the champion of District 28-4A. The Lady Bears went undefeated in 12 district match-ups this season. La Vernia’s overall record was 35-9 during the regular season.

The winners of Monday and Tuesday’s Bi-District matches will move on to the area round. UIL Area round matches are scheduled to start on Wednesday.
