(Seguin) — Friday is Senior Night at Matador Stadium as the Seguin Matadors take on San Antonio Wagner. Both the Thunderbirds and Mats are 4-1 in District 12-5A and tied for 2nd place in the district with Canyon. All three teams trail Smithson Valley. The Rangers are unbeaten in district play with two games left in the regular season.

Seguin head coach Craig Dailey says Wagner will present a run-heavy offense to the Matadors and he also says the Thunderbird defensive front will be the biggest the Mats have seen so far this season.

They run the triple-option which a lot of people don’t do much anymore. So, it’s something you don’t see all the time and they’re very good at it. (…) It’s assignment football (for our defense). Defensively, (Wagner) is super athletic, probably the biggest front we’ve seen the whole  year. Their two (defensive tackles) are big men and they get after the (quarterback), and they’re really good against the run. So, it’s gonna be a challenge for us up front.””

Tomorrow’s Senior Night game has a 7:30 kickoff at Matador Stadium. You’ll hear the game right here on KWED.

The Navarro Panthers and Marion Bulldogs are also battling for playoff position in their respective districts. The Panthers are coming off a 21-14 loss last week at state power Wimberley. Navarro is back on the road this week at Austin Achieve. The Panthers are tied with Lago Vista for 2nd place in District 13-4A. The Marion Bulldogs are 2-2 in District 13-3A following a blowout 41-13 win at home over Ingram Moore last week and this week the Bulldogs will be in San Antonio to take on the Cole Cougars. Marion is in a 3-way tie for third place in the district with Blanco and Lulling.

We’ll visit with both Navarro head coach Rod Blount and Marion head coach Ryne Miller during our High School Football Friday night coverage. The Panther report starts our coverage at 6:45 tomorrow evening and then we’ll have the Bulldog report and it all leads into to our Matador pre-game show at Matador Stadium where we’ll talk more with coach Dailey before the kickoff on Senior Night on the Matador Report. You’ll hear it all on AM 1580 and streaming online worldwide at SeguinToday.com.

(New Braunfels) — There is one Thursday night game in District 12-5A. The Canyon Cougars host San Antonio MacArthur. The Cougars have won 3 straight games coming into tonight’s district match-up. The Brahmas are 1-4 in district. MacArthur got their first win of the district season last week over Kyle Lehman.
