(Seguin) — A home in the 500 block of North River Street was gutted by flames late Tuesday morning.
Seguin Fire Chief Dale Skinner says they responded quickly to the fire, but the flames had already begun to spread by the time that they arrived.
“We received a report of a possible structure fire in the 500 block of River Street, at about at about 11:30 this morning. We arrived on scene very quickly — as it’s only half a block from our Central Fire Station — to find the whole front of the house fully involved in fire. The occupant of the residence appeared to be injured, so we immediately attended to the injured occupant, as we began our fire fighting efforts,” said Skinner.
Chief Skinner says this was a stubborn fire, and they spent the better part of two-hours working to get it under control.
“This being an older home, it creates some challenges for fire fighting, because because of the way that they are built. They are built out of heavy timber and wood that’s very hard to gain access these hidden areas of the fire in the structure. We continued our efforts for a couple of hours and we are finally getting to the point where we are comfortable with it being considered under control, but it is by no means out,” said Skinner.
The home owner was treated on the scene for her injuries, but Chief Skinner says that she declined to be transported to the hospital. He says there was one firefighter, who had a medical problem while on the scene. That firefighter was treated and scene, and then transported to the hospital. No word yet on his condition.
Chief Skinner says their investigation remains active, and they have not yet determined the cause of the fire.
