(Corpus Christi) – The Lifegate Christian School volleyball program captured the Texas Christian Athletic League’s 1A Regional Championship on Saturday with a 4 set win over Annapolis Christian Academy on Saturday. The Lady Falcons took the first set 25-21 before dropping the second set 18-25 and then topping the Lady Warriors in the final two sets, 25-16 and 27-25.
Some of the top performers for Lifegate included Freshman Sharla Maples, junior Elena Mendez and senior Olivia Castillo.
The Lady Falcons reached Saturday’s regional final by knocking off Sunnybrook Christian earlier in the day in a hard fought 5 set match, winning 25-17, 28-26, 18-25, 19-25, 15-9.
Lifegate will now head to the TCAL State Championship Tournament at Mission Concepcion Sports Park in San Antonio starting on Thursday. The Falcons will take on True North High School out of the Woodlands on Thursday morning at 10am. The winner of that match moves to Friday afternoon’s semifinal against the winner of the match between Sunnybrook and Pasadena Faith Christian Academy. The State Championship will take place on Saturday at 2:30 pm.
The Falcons, coached by Anne Maples, have a 17-1 overall record on the season.
