(Abilene) — The Texas Lutheran football team heads to the road this Saturday to take on the McMurry War Hawks in Abilene. Both teams have struggled in the American Southwestern Conference this year. The Bulldogs are 1-3 in conference play following a home loss to 4th-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor this past Saturday. McMurry won their first game of the season on Saturday knocking off Austin College in Sherman to improve to 1-4.
Despite their struggles, TLU has gotten strong quarterback play from Seth Cosme. The senior from Angleton has thrown for over 240 yards a game with 11 touchdowns and only 2 interceptions on the season. Cosme leads the conference in completion percentage at nearly 73 percent. Bulldog head coach Neal LaHue says Cosme is a diligent student of the game who plays smart.
“He’s a quiet kid. He doesn’t say a lot, but he is a meticulous note taker. He loves to watch film and understands what we want offensively. (He’s) not afraid to take the check down (and) takes what the defense gives you. He’s an accurate passer and does a good job of moving in the pocket. You can’t always teach that. (I’m) very proud of him. He’s got a lot of people around him but he’s taken what we’ve tried to preach, and that’s you don’t have to carry the offense, just get it in the right person’s hands and let them work and he’s done a good job of that.”
Cosme and the Bulldogs will look to extend a two-game road winning streak this week at McMurry. TLU won at North American in a non-conference match-up on October 1st and took down ASC rival Austin College in Sherman on October 8th. The Bulldogs will kick with the War Hawks at 1 pm Saturday at Wilford Moore Stadium in Abilene. You’ll hear the game right here on KWED. We’ll talk more with coach LaHue during our Bulldog pre-game show starting at 12:30 Saturday afternoon on AM 1580 and streaming online at TLUBulldogs.com.
