Want a say in school, city elections? Then TODAY is the day to register to vote

Residents new to Seguin, Guadalupe County reminded to also register, update address info

(Seguin) – If you are looking to have a say in the Seguin ISD bond election or in who becomes the next Texas governor, then today is the final day to make sure you have what you need to cast your ballot at the polls on Nov. 8.

That’s according to Guadalupe County Elections Administrator Lisa Hayes. Hayes says to vote in Texas, you must be registered. She says that registration deadline is today.

“So, if a voter wants to find out if they are registered to vote that is probably the starting place. They can go on the Secretary of State’s website, VoteTexas.gov and they can look up whether they are registered or not. They can call our office to see if they are registered. They can stop in, but we want to make sure that the voters are registered to vote,” said Hayes.

Hayes says voters who have moved since the last election will also want to make sure that their personal information has also been changed to ensure the right items on their ballots come November.

“If they know they are registered to vote but they have moved recently, this is also the deadline to get their address updated for the Nov. 8 election because they are going to want to make sure we have their correct address because they are going to want the ballot style that pertains to the address they actually live at. So, if they’ve moved within the county and they haven’t updated their address, that’s also the deadline – today – for that as well,” said Hayes.

Hayes says she can’t stress enough about folks double checking their registration status. She says it’s usually not until they arrive at a polling location on election day that they learn that they can’t vote.

“This is the deadline. That is what that means. It’s got to be postmarked today if you are dropping a voter registration application in the mail. If you are dropping it off, it’s got to be in our office by 5 p.m. so absolutely make sure that happens please,” said Hayes.

Hayes says online applications are also available and can be submitted throughout the day today on the Secretary of State’s website.

Hayes with a handful of local races and several statewide races appearing on the ballot, she wants to ensure that everyone gets the opportunity to experience their right to vote.

“There are 10 local entities that are holding elections in conjunction with the gubernatorial election which is our federal, our state, our county and then 10 local entities are holding their election so this is for any election that is being held in the state of Texas, Guadalupe County on Nov. 8 so if voters want to vote, this is their chance to register to be eligible to vote in that election,” said Hayes.

Both the Seguin and Marion ISD will be hosting multimillion dollar bond elections. The Seguin ISD and the Navarro ISD will also be looking to fill a few seats on its board of trustees. The city of Seguin will host a couple of council races and Meadow Lake will be looking at creating a  (Water Control Improvement District) WCID. Other entities appearing on the ballot include Green Valley Special Utility District,  Universal City, City of Schertz and the Prairie Lea ISD.

Again, visit VoteTexas.gov for online registration. Elections office personnel say they are also happy to help with voter registration. They may be reached by calling 830-303-6363.
