(Seguin) — The Guadalupe County Fair Association is looking to rope in those last minute contestants for its annual Best Western Wear Roundup. In order to finalize its categories for both girls and boys, organizers are giving parents and guardians three more days to sign up for the contest slated for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Seguin Coliseum.
The contest is designed for boys ages 0-5 and 0-7 for girls.
Committee Chair Madeline Zwicke Dalman says of all the contest at the fair, this one is no doubt the cutest of them all.
“The kiddos, they model western wear and so some things are homemade, handmade by members of the family or you can go to your local, Southern Good, D&D — all of those great places and purchase western attire and then the kids get up on stage and model and so the ones that aren’t old enough yet to walk, their parents can certainly help them around stage so that’s always a lot of fun too. Just wear any type of western wear. We’ve seen it all through the years. We just ask for no clown attire because we want people to truly have their western gear on,” said Dalman.
Just as in past years, Dalman each of the top winners will either get to walk or crawl away with some fantastic prizes.
“We have boy and girl age divisions 0-1 and then we have 2-3 and then a category from 4-5 and we place first, second and third for boys and girls for those three age divisions and then we also have an overall grand champion for boys and an overall grand champion for girls that receive a gift card, a Visa gift card — they also receive Wave Pool passes thanks to the city of Seguin and then we have belt buckles that are donated by Virginia Chapman. For first place for each division, we have passes to Jungle Jam that are donated, D&D (Farm and Ranch) gift cards and passes to ZDT’s as well. We also have a queen division which is girls only ages 6-7 and then we have a queen winner. We have a first runner-up, second runner-up and third place and the queen will get a crown and then also a $100 to D&D, a pass to ZDT, a pass to Jungle Jam and then a Wave Pool pass and then the first runner-up also gets all of those things but just a $50 gift card to D& D and the same with second runner-up,” said Dalman.
In addition, Grand Champion winners and the 6-7-year-old Queen and Queen’s Court will be recognized at the Fair Queen’s Contest and PRCA Rodeo being held later that day on Saturday.
The deadline to enter the contest is 5 p.m. Wednesday. Entries this week will only be accepted via email. Participants are asked to enter by providing a description of their attire to madelinezwicke@yahoo.com.
