(Gonzales) — There’s plenty of high school football on the docket tonight around the area. The Marion Bulldogs are looking to go to 3-0 on the season as they head on the road to Gonzales to battle the Apaches. The Bulldogs got a big game out of Dominic Castellanos last week in a 35-17 victory at home over Natalia. The senior scored three touchdowns, two on long runs and another on a strip fumble. He also had an interception. Marion head coach Ryne Miller says Castellanos helped swing the momentum for the Bulldogs last week.
“He’s a special player. He’s one of those guys that just kinda flips a switch and turns the game around real quick and I think that was evident. (We had) a rough first quarter and we (told him) ‘you gotta to make a play’ and he said ‘coach, I got ya.’ And he just started making plays all over the field. (…) He’s not only a good player but he a good kid too. He does right in the classroom. He’s got a bright future, not (just) here as a Bulldog, but also on the next level too.”
Kickoff for the Bulldogs and Apaches is 7 O’clock tonight in Gonzales.
The Navarro Panthers come home to Erwin Lee Field for the first time this season as they host the Smithville Tigers. Navarro dropped their first two games on the season on the road at Navasota in game one and last week at Cuero. Despite the losses, Navarro head coach Rod Blount says they’re still focused on getting better as a team.
“All of our goals are still in place. We want to take a step each week to getting to our goals and accomplishing them. We’ve got to get back up and get back after it this week. We’ve got another tough team ahead of us in Smithville. We’re not focusing on Smithville or the guys that we’re playing. We’re working on us getting better as a team and us getting better at what we do each week.”
It’s Parents Night in Geronimo tonight. The Panthers and the Tigers will kick at 7:30 this evening at Erwin Lee Field.
