(Laredo) — The Seguin Matador football team will travel down to the Texas/Mexico border on Friday night to take on the Laredo United Longhorns. It’s the the second straight week the Mats will face a 6A opponent after taking on New Braunfels last week.
Friday night’s game is also the final tune-up for the Matadors before they start District 12-5A play next week at homecoming against Kyle Lehman and Seguin head coach Craig Dailey says they expect to see a pass heavy offense out of the Longhorns.
“They’re gonna throw the football around probably 80 to 90 percent of the time. So it’s a little bit different than what we’ve seen the first two games. Those teams wanted to run the ball more. It’s going to be a challenge to our young secondary. We’ll play some nickle and dime packages that we haven’t used yet because we haven’t played a pass heavy team. We’ll see how those packages look before we get into district play.”
Both United and Seguin are 1-1 on the season. The Matadors started the season with a 42-39 win at home against Alamo Heights before falling 31-7 last Thursday at New Braunfels. The Longhorns lost to San Antonio Warren 35-28 at home two weeks ago before rebounding to win on the road at San Antonio Marshall 28-17 last Thursday.
Kickoff is set for 7 pm Friday night and you’ll hear the game on KWED.
