Fall Fling TONIGHT at Silver Center

Seguin, TX, USA / Seguin Today
Fall Fling TONIGHT at Silver Center

(Seguin) — The Seguin Noon Lions Club is inviting you over for dinner tonight. The service club is hosting its annual Fall Fling tonight outside the Silver Center on East Court Street in downtown Seguin.

Noon Lions Club member Bill Klingemann says they won’t have bug races or the turtle derby that have been big parts of their past Spring Fling events. But instead, tonight’s Fall Fling is all about some good cooking. He says those famous pork steak plates will be offered using a to-go, drive-thru format only.

“This is famous Next Door Catering Troy and Nancy Brown. They have always helped us and are doing it again this year. They put out a wonderful pork steak and along with it, I never know how to describe the potatoes other than they are just delicious. They are kind of a combination of baked potato and scalloped potatoes, but they are good and great beans that go along with it and if you are not satisfied after this meal then I don’t know what’s wrong with you,” said Klingemann.

The money raised during the Fall Fling helps the Noon Lions Club support a number of charitable efforts in the community, including its KidSight program. Club Member Mike Wilson says they started the local program several years ago, and they’ve been screening kids ever since. He says the program fills a need in the community and ensures that eye problems are identified as quickly as possible.

“A lot of the times vision is overlooked because they are not manifesting any symptoms of bad vision and the problem with that is that kids are very adaptable and they don’t know when they have bad vision and until they are shown what good vision is with corrective lenses, then they don’t know and it’s such a thrill and has been for me on several occasions to be able to put the first pair of glasses that the Lions have purchased on a child that has bad vision and to see their face light up like never before and they just enter a whole new world whenever they do that,” said Wilson.

The plates were pre-sold by the club, but a limited number of plates will be sold tonight at the event. The plates are $18 at the event. Again, it’s a drive-thru serving. People picking up plates are asked to enter the Silver Center parking lot from San Marcos Street.
