Seguin ISD schools officially recognized for moving up a letter grade or two

(Seguin) — The hard work of several Seguin ISD campuses didn’t go unnoticed this past week.

The school district invited its A and B campus leadership teams for an official recognition before the public for its academic success this past school year.

Principals and staff members were honored during the Seguin ISD Board of Trustees meeting for their respective school’s accountability rating as released by the Texas Education Agency.

One by one, these noted campuses were applauded and presented with signage to take back and proudly hang in their campuses.

Seguin ISD Superintendent Dr. Matthew Gutierrez says he is proud of the high achieving and advanced letter grades or two that these schools received.

“The majority of our campuses made progress. Eight of our 11 schools moved a letter grade or two and for that, we are really proud. Several schools jumped up in the double digits and although our overall district rating doesn’t truly reflect the hard work, we are proud and I know that I can speak for the board of trustees of the hard work that is being done on our campuses and our efforts are to be commended and celebrated and I shared earlier, I would much prefer be a D rated school district with the majority high performing schools than a B rated district with a majority of not rated or failing schools,” said Gutierrez.

The evening was also to help spotlight the principals and assistant principals of each campus who continue to lead the charge for academic success each and every day. Gutierrez says they are only a representative of that school’s hardworking and dedicated batch of teachers and staff members.

“The students just continue to excel, and I’m really excited about what this year has in store. These campuses are laser focused on moving to an A and I’m excited about that. Thank you all and congratulations,” said Gutierrez.

Campuses on hand for the recognition include the district’s A campus which is the Mercer Blumberg Learning Center plus each of its B campuses which include Rodriguez Elementary, Patlan Elementary, Koennecke Elementary, McQueeney Elementary and Jefferson Avenue Elementary.
