(Seguin) — The Seguin City Council recently used its meeting to recognize another group of elected officials.

During its last council meeting, Mayor Donna Dodgen read a proclamation recognizing the Seguin ISD Board of Trustees for being named the top school board in the region.

“This certificate is presented to the Seguin ISD Board of Trustees for being named the 2022 Texas Region 20 School Board of the Year by the Texas Association of School Administrators. On behalf of the city of Seguin and the entire community, the Seguin City Council congratulates Board Members Carl Jenkins, District 1; Alejandro Guerra, District 2; Cinde Thomas-Jimenez, District 3, Linda Duncan, District 4; Denise Crettenden, District 5 and Ben Amador, District 6 and Glenda Moreno, District 7 on this truly truly distinct honor. We wish you luck as you vie for the State School Board of the Year and thank you for every single thing that you do,” said Dodgen.

School Board President Cinde Thomas-Jimenez thanked the council for the recognition. She says the board doesn’t do its work for the accolades, but she says it does feel good to honored by those who understand the challenges that they face each day.

“I just want to say we really appreciate ya’ll recognizing us here this evening. When we first got the word or at least when I first heard, my first instinct was to be very humble and not make a big deal out of it but when I started thinking about it, I decided this is a really big deal and we really gel together as a board. We’ve gotten so much accomplished working with Dr. (Matthew) Gutierrez (Seguin ISD Superintendent) and just looking forward to the future,” said Thomas-Jimenez.

Earlier this summer, trustees learned that they had been selected as the top board in Region 20. The region includes 58 school districts that stretch across 19 South-Central Texas counties.
