Neal LaHue to Make Head Coaching Debut for TLU Saturday

TLU Sports Information & Sports Marketing

(Seguin) — The Texas Lutheran football team kicks off their season on Saturday as the Bulldogs host the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets in an American Southwest Conference matchup. The home opener will be the debut of a new head coach. Neal LaHue comes to TLU after spending the last two seasons as the assistant head coach-offensive coordinator, and quarterbacks coach at Division-II Texas A&M – Kingsville. LaHue is no stranger to TLU. He served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach under head coach Carl Gustafson for two seasons in 2018 and 2019.

Now back at TLU as the head coach, LaHue says he wants his offense to run a balanced attack.

“We want to run the football, but we also to be able to throw the football. So, we want to be a balanced attack. We got some good running backs and I think we have a capable quarterback. So, we want to keep it mixed up. We’re not gonna be quite as run oriented as (the team was) the last couple of years. We’ll try to spread it out just a little bit more.”

LaHue says senior quarterback Seth Cosme will make the start for the Bulldogs on Saturday with sophomore Cole Andrus serving as the backup.

On defense LaHue feels the ASC is a passing league, so he expects to play in a lot of nickel sets on that side of the ball. He also says stopping the run will be a priority.

We’ll visit more with Coach Neal LaHue on Saturday during our TLU pregame show here on KWED. Kickoff between the Bulldogs and Yellow Jackets is set for 1 O’clock at Bulldog Stadium. Our pre-game starts at 12:30 Saturday afternoon on KWED and online at TLUBulldogs.com.
