Keller officially files for a seat on the Seguin City Council

Keller officially files for a seat on the Seguin City Council

Bill Keller

(Seguin) — Another long time Seguin resident is stepping forward to run for a seat on the Seguin City Council.

Bill Keller has formally announced his candidacy for the District 8 council seat. The seat is currently held by Councilman Mark Herbold, who was not eligible to run again because of term limits.

Keller says he thinks he has the skills and the time to do the job right for the people of Seguin.

“Those who are able to do so really have a duty to serve their community in whatever way they can, and I’ve done quite a bit in the past — in the last few years not so much but Seguin is a growing community. I want to be a part of this growth. I certainly have the time to do so right now, and I want to devote pretty much all of my effort to assist in the growth in what is going to be making Seguin a great city and I think we are well on the way,” said Keller.

Seguin is now a fast-growing city, with projections that it could see its population double in size over the next decade. The Seguin Daily News asked Keller about the growth issue, and he says it’s going to be a big part of the challenge for the council in years to come.

“It is a large part of managing that growth, making sure we have the infrastructure to cover the influx of population that we will have, that we are having and I think we have the right person at the helm as Steve Parker as the city manager and I want to do everything that I can to assist him but a lot of it is I think the council needs to give guidance to the city staff to make sure that we are growing in the right, that we have all our ducks in line to make sure that all of this happens in a very orderly manner,” said Keller.

Keller has spent more than four decades in Seguin. He says over those years, he’s worked with several groups to try to help make Seguin a better place to live, work and play.

“I resided in Seguin for 43 years just retired after 25 years with CMC Steel Texas. I served with the city in the parks and recreation board where I chaired that group and also the building and standards commission. I also chaired that. I have been involved in the Seguin Rotary Club where I was president in the 80s. I was also the chairman of the board of the Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce in 97-98. So, I’ve been involved in the city. I know how it works. I know I will be open with people, and I will be approachable, and I think we can get things done in this town. I want to continue the work that Mark Herbold has done and all the folks that have (represented) District 8 in the last several terms,” said Keller.

The District 8 seat is one of two contested council seats that will appear on the November 8 ballot in the city of Seguin.

All candidates to appear on the Nov. 8 ballot for District 8 Seguin City Council include Keller, Steven Berger and Eddie Davila Jr.
