Marion Bulldogs Getting Ready for Next Week's Home Opener

(Marion) — The high school football regular season starts one week from tomorrow. The Marion Bulldogs have been busy the last couple of weeks getting ready for the 2022 season. The Bulldogs were a 7-4 team last year in head coach Ryne Miller’s 4th season at the helm. Coach Miller talked with us this week and he says his team has been smart and physical in practice.

“(We’re seeing) a lot of good things. Our kids are really picking up the verbiage. Our full install was done after the first week. We’ve been practicing real physical. We’re trying to be smart. We know we’re three weeks into fall camp (and we’re) banging heads pretty good. We got to get ready for the regular season. (Our players have) done a great job taking care of themselves and (they’re)  gonna be excited to go next Friday.”

The Bulldog’s top rusher from a year ago Aiden Rios is back along with star receiver Dominic Castellanos. A new quarterback will lead the Bulldog attack in 2022. Senior Dillon Sanchez brings experience to the position and Miller says Sanchez has taken control of the team’s leadership.

“Dillon’s done a great job. He’s got a very high football IQ. He’s one of those guys that can just spin the ball. He can throw it 70 yards in the air and he puts it on a dime. He’s extremely smart, he’s resilient, he has that quarterback mentality and he’s done a great job of really taking control of the leadership of this team. He puts our guys in great position and lets our play makers do their jobs and he delivers the ball to them.”

Marion will scrimmage at Poth this evening. The regular season starts for the Bulldogs next Friday as they host Hondo.
