Conservation Society hosting Seguin Birthday Party

(Seguin) — The Seguin Conservation Society is inviting the community out to celebrate Seguin’s birthday this weekend. The annual Seguin Birthday Party will be held Friday night at the conservation society’s Heritage Village on East Live Oak Street.

Conservation Society Member Dottsy Dwyer says the party will begin with an old-fashioned ice cream contest that will lead into a full evening of fun and entertainment.

“We have an ice cream contest in the First Church so if you want to make ice cream let me know at 830-305-1847 and we can get you into the ice cream contest. You’ll have to bring your ice cream by 4 o’clock. Then at 5:30, we’ll judge, and we can sell the ice cream to all the people that attend the party,” said Dwyer.

Dwyer and several local musicians will provide the musical entertainment for the party. She says the music and the food are always a big draw for the event.

“We also have live music with Kirk Herbold and Danielle and Neal Herbold and myself and even my granddaughter Caylee is going to sing too for a little while and we have a barbecue starting at about 5:30 p.m. with Next Door Catering. It’s a barbecue plate. Plates are $15 but a lot of those were presale but we do have some if you want to walk up and buy a ticket and as long as that last, we will be serving barbecue,” said Dwyer.

The Heritage Village will also be open during the event, and people are invited to tour the grounds as part of the city’s birthday celebration.  Dwyer says it’s all an attempt to celebrate Seguin and all its people.

“We will also have our properties open, the Campbell-Hoermann Log Cabin, The First Church and The Doll House and the Calaboose. Our properties are beautiful, and everything has been restored. We are working on the roof of the Los Nogales so we won’t be able to have that open this year, but our properties will be avaible. We will have a lot of fun. The Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Posse is going to deliver the proclamation for Seguin’s 184th birthday around 6 o’clock. So there’s just a lot of activity going on. We are celebrating the true rich history that we have in Seguin and just having an incredible time with everyone at the properties on Live Oak Street from 5:30 to 8,” said Dwyer.

In addition to the birthday party, the Seguin Conservation Society is also hosting a golf tournament Saturday morning at Max Starcke Park.  The two-person scramble gets underway at 8 a.m. Saturday in Starcke Park.

The Seguin Conservation Society will have a Seguin Birthday Celebration featuring a catered BBQ dinner, entertainment, and Homemade Ice Cream Contest at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12. A Golf Tournament will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13 at Max Starcke Park Golf Course. For more information, call Dottsy Dwyer at 830-305-1847.
