Community invited to pray for local schools

(Seguin) — Faith leaders are inviting the community to gather in Central Park this weekend to pray for teachers, students and our schools. The Prayer in the Park event is being hosted by the Guadalupe County Ministerial Association.

Association member Tom Jones, who serves as chaplain at Guadalupe Regional Medical Center, says they want as many people as possible to come join their efforts to pray for local schools.

“The Guadalupe County Ministerial Association is inviting all the churches and folks in the community to come out to the park and pray for our schools. This is not a big political event but just to get together and pray. Our schools more than ever now just need to be bathe in prayer — all of our administrators, all of our students, all of our teachers just everyone that works in the school system and especially our students,” said Jones.

Jones says they’ll get started around 3:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon in Central Park. He says you just need to show up with an open heart and mind.

“We are going to meet at the park, and we are going to open it with some prayer and then we are going to gather into different groups around the park and then we are going to close with some prayer. This is just a real prayer centered event,” said Jones.

Prayer for safety and security in schools has never been more needed, Jones says. He says that’s why they want to come together and offer this opportunity to the community. He says everyone is invited.

“We sent out fliers to all of the churches in the area that I’m aware of and encouraged the pastors to promote it in their churches. We put some fliers out in the community and we made invitations for the schools, for the teachers and administrators and hopefully, it will have a big crowd out there just for prayer,” said Jones.

Again, the focus of Prayer in the Park will be for students, teachers and schools as campuses reopen next week. For more information, you can contact Chaplain Jones at 830-481-4831.
