(Seguin) – A former Seguin City Councilman wants the opportunity to return to the seat he once held.
Jim Lievens has officially filed for a place on the ballot in the district 3 race, a district he previously served from 2017 to 2018.
Endorsing his bid to run in the Nov. 8 General Election is current District 3 Councilman Chris Aviles who has chosen to not seek re-election.
Lieven’s says his background and experience equips him to help serve District 3’s “diverse community and address the district’s aging infrastructure and dramatic new development.” He says he “has a fiscally conservative, straight-forward approach that supports law enforcement and first responders.”
In addition to previously serving as a city councilman, Lievens is currently on the city of Seguin Planning and Zoning board and is a member of the Guadalupe County Appraisal District board of directors.
He has had previous leadership roles with the Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club of Seguin, the Geronimo Lions Club, Seguin Youth Services, and with First United Methodist Church.
Lievens is a native of the Rio Grande Valley and a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin. A long-time CMC steelmaker, Lievens also served with the Alamo Colleges, and for the past five years as a realtor with Century 21 United-D&D.
Lievens says his years of teaching leadership development at CMC and at the Alamo Colleges drives his focus on “being a person of integrity and in treating all with dignity and respect.” He adds that he prides himself on being available and responsive to citizens and for serving without bias or prejudice.
He and his wife Tracey, of 39 years, have lived in Seguin since 1993. Their son, Alex, is a 2022 graduate of Navarro High School.
Serving as campaign treasurer for Lievens is former GRMC administrator Don Richey.
