(Seguin) — The search for our new sports director is officially over. After sifting through a large pool of applicants, we are pleased to announce that Chris Austin is our new sports director. As sports director, Austin will also serve as the new play-by-play voice for all sports on radio station KWED, including Seguin High School football games. Austin will be joined during those high school football broadcasts by Texas Association of Broadcasters and Texas Associated Press award-winning color analyst Ivy Koehler-Meehan. Austin officially starts on Monday, with his first day on the air set for Tuesday morning here on AM 1580 KWED.
Austin replaces longtime KWED Sports Director Mike McBride, who moved to the sunny shores of Florida at the beginning of the summer season.
Austin, who comes to KWED from his last stint working for a group of stations in San Angelo, knows this area well. He has previously broadcast games in the New Braunfels, Gonzales, Dripping Springs and Austin areas. Austin says he’s eager to get started and to help tell the stories of local student athletes at Texas Lutheran University and at Seguin, Navarro, and Marion high schools.
