(Seguin) – What better way to celebrate your 40th anniversary than serving as the parade marshal of your hometown’s Fourth of July Parade?

Seguin Mayor Donna Dodgen is happy to announce that she has chosen students, directors, and the members of Teatro De Artes De Juan Seguin to serve as this year’s parade grand marshal.  The non-profit organization will lead this year’s Biggest Small-Town 4th of July Parade down Austin Street beginning at 10 a.m. Monday.

Dogden says not only is Teatro deserving but she felt it was a great way to celebrate 40 years of making an impact in the community.

“We are very fortunate to have this amazing organization in our community celebrating 40 years of Mexican American cultural education and the arts,” said Mayor Dodgen. “Teatro keeps the Mexican American culture and pride alive in our City in so many ways – through Ballet Folklórico and Mariachi programs, annual Dia de los Muertas events, Noche De Gala Vocal Competition, Humanities Lecture Series and their support of civic, community, business, and education collaboratives to promote the Mexican American and Hispanic arts.  Honoring them as our parade marshal is a fitting way to show our appreciation to Teatro De Artes De Juan Seguin,” said Dodgen.

Dr. Yvonne De La Rosa, the executive director for Teatro De Artes says the group was very honored to learn of its selection.

“We were extremely excited to be named the grand marshal for the parade. The longevity in the community and all of the positive impact that we’ve had on young people and adults has not gone unnoticed and so to be the parade marshals, it’s a great honor,” said De La Rosa.

Without giving all the details, De La Rosa says the group is excited and looking forward to leading this year’s caravan of nearly 125 entries.

“You will see the traditional red, white and blue along with festive colors that will don the parade float. We do have a surprise in store for our community in gratitude to 40 years of support,” said De La Rosa.

In addition, Dodgen says the city will begin recognizing the group Monday morning by having two of its Teatro members sing the National Anthem at this year’s Flag Raising Ceremony. That ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. Monday in Central Park. It will be followed by the parade at 10 a.m. The parade route will travel south on Austin Street. To capture all of the parade, seating should be secured on Austin Street between College Street and the Seguin Coliseum.
