(San Antonio) — The San Antonio Spurs today announced their roster for the 2022 NBA Summer League. The Silver and Black will play in the NBA 2K23 Summer League from July 7-17 on the campus of UNLV in Las Vegas.
This year’s roster includes returning Spurs guards Josh Primo and Joe Wieskamp, two-way players Robert Woodard II and DJ Stewart Jr., as well as San Antonio’s 2022 draft selections Jeremy Sochan (9th overall pick), Malaki Branham (20th overall pick) and Blake Wesley (25th overall pick).
In his first season with the Silver and Black, Primo finished his rookie campaign averaging 5.8 points and 2.3 rebounds in 19.3 minutes while appearing in 50 games (18 starts). His 18 starts are the most by a Spurs rookie since 2011-12. The former Alabama guard made 101 field goals in 2021-22 to become the youngest Spur to reach 100 in a single season. He also played 19 games with the Austin Spurs, he averaged 16.6 points, a team-high 5.6 assists and 3.0 rebounds.
Wieskamp saw action in 29 games for San Antonio last season, averaging 2.1 points in 7.1 minutes. The Iowa Hawkeye also suited up with the Austin Spurs, averaging 15.3 points, 3.8 rebounds in 32.4 minutes in 28 games across the G League regular season and Showcase Cup where he shot .455 from the floor and .365 from three, finishing second on the team.
Both playing in Austin last season, Stewart Jr. averaged 14.5 points, 3.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds in 14 games, while Woodard II finished the season averaging 12.8 points and 7.9 rebounds in 10 appearances.
Spurs assistant coach Mitch Johnson will serve as head coach of San Antonio’s 2022 Summer League team, which will start play on Friday, July 8, at 4 p.m. CT against the Cleveland Cavaliers at COX Pavilion.
