(Seguin) — Julissa Rodriguez (Deer Park/Deer Park) has been named All-Region by the USTFCCCA for her performance in the shot put during the 2022 NCAA Division-III Outdoor Track & Field season. All-Region honors were announced on Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) following the conclusion of the regular season.
Top-5 individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region honors, in addition to each of the members of a top-3 ranked relay team.
Only USTFCCCA member programs are eligible for awards.
The honors continue to roll in what made for a decorated freshman season for the Deer Park, Texas, native. Rodriguez was named Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Women’s Field Athlete of the Year last week.
Rodriguez’s collection of honors in her freshman season now include USTFCCCA All-Region honors in both the indoor and outdoor season, SCAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Year, 2022 SCAC Championships Co-Female Athlete of the Meet, and SCAC Field Athlete of the Week following her first collegiate meet in March.
This season, Rodriguez tied for the high point female scorer (26 points) at the 2022 SCAC Championships, earning Co-Athlete-of-the-Meet honors as a result. Competing in all four throwing events, Rodriguez finished first in the shot put (39’ 3 3/4”), second in the discus (121’ 3”), third in the hammer (134’ 8”) an fifth in the javelin (99’ 6”), with the first three efforts all top 15 performances in the West Region this season.
Rodriguez’s honor adds to the list of All-Region honors for TLU Women’s Track and Field in 2022 as Dejah Carr (Houston/Channelview) (Weight Throw), Maya Flax (Port Arthur/Memorial) (Shot Put), and Rodriguez (Weight Throw/Shot Put) earned All-Region honors during the indoor season.
