New Seguin Police Chief shares

New Seguin Police Chief shares

Jason Brady

(Seguin) — The city’s new police chief says he is looking forward to his move to Seguin. Newly appointed Police Chief Jason Brady is sharing a few of his thoughts and comments about his new leadership role with the Seguin Police Department.

Brady, the current chief of police for Rollingwood, tells Seguin Radio KWED that he’s looking forward to serving this area.

“I lived in South Texas pretty much my adult life. I’m very familiar with Seguin. I’ve been here numerous times so I already kind of knew the city a little bit. It reminds me much more of Corpus Christi where I sort of grew up in law enforcement than my current assignment in terms of the geography, demographics just the feel of the city, just more in tune of what I’m used to. The Austin area is a little more foreign to me and it’s just a larger city than where I am now, more activity, very welcoming and as you know, there is growth here, lots of potential so it seems like a good fit for me and for my family,” said Brady.

Brady says he realizes he has big shoes to fill with the retiring of Chief Terry Nichols but believes his vision and goals will be met with the help and support of the local community.

“I think the citizens of Seguin have been very accustomed to a high level of community engagement with the prior Chief Terry Nichols. That’s going to continue I believe very much in the community policing model. I’m excited about that so I want to continue building upon those foundations that have begun and continue developing those partnerships with the community. I don’t think you have effective police services if you don’t have the support of the community, if you don’t have the eyes and ears of the community and the backing of the community so it all works together and so I want them to know that is going to continue and thrive and flourish as much as I can possibly make that happen,” said Brady.

Upon arriving, Brady says his first steps will be to learn more about the community and ways in which to further strengthen the police department.

“There’s going to have to be a period where I analyze and I evaluate the current operations as well as the programs that are in place so I want to really focus on crime obviously in particular crimes of violence and see if there is a way we can maybe tighten up and improve upon how not only how we respond but maybe detour or prevent that and of course, given what we have seen in Uvalde, I’d like to kind of overlook what our procedures are for responses to active shooters and what’s in place and if that’s sufficient or if there are ways to improve or even strengthen our bonds with the ISDs to ensure that we are providing an even greater level of safety to the schools,” said Brady.

Brady says he is eager to get started and is ready to welcome this new chapter in his career.

“I’m just really looking forward (to it). City Manager (Steve) Parker had brought me in for a full day breakfast and dinner meeting with members of the city staff, meeting with council members, meeting with community leaders, faith-based leaders and I’m just really looking forward to working with this community. I so far got a warm welcome and reception so that certainly encourages me and my family to feel welcome here,” said Brady.

Brady’s family includes wife Patricia and their two children Rebecca, 21 and Reagan, 17.

Prior to his current role at the City of Rollingwood, Brady, spent a total of 26 years with the Corpus Christi Police Department (CCPD). City officials say during the search process, Brady ended on top of a list that drew in 50 applicants from all over.

Brady will assume his new role as the police chief for the city of Seguin in mid-August.
