(Seguin) – Curtains open this weekend for the latest production to hit the stage at The Texas Theatre.

The theatre is excited to present an encore production of “Songs and Other Important Lessons & Things.” The production is a 2022 revival of the musical, memoir written by local actress Johanna Bain Johnson.

Director Sheila Lucas says Johnson is no stranger to the stage and guarantees folks will enjoy the weeklong performance.

“She had done her one woman show I think six years ago. We did a production of it and it was only two acts but it was still very good, very enduring, it’s funny, it’s poignant and she, of course, sings so so well – Broadway trained at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York and so that’s basically what the first two acts this time are about – just her training and how she felt in New York and this that and the other and then we’ve added a third act and the first line in the third act is “Motherhood is exhausting.” So, it takes us through all the things that are happening now with her, and her precious children are even in the third act,” said Lucas.

In fact, Lucas says Johnson’s talents have managed to provide a little theater to the Seguin community this summer.

“We had a show scheduled for June and it didn’t work out and Johanna just stepped right up and said I’ll do my one woman show If you want me to and of course, we jumped on that because she is so entertaining,” said Lucas.

Both reserved seating and general admission tickets are available. Lucas says those tickets, however, will go fast if folks don’t act as soon as possible.

“Tickets are going so get your tickets as quick as possible. Only three performances Friday night, Saturday night and a Sunday matinee and so we hope for a good audience and we want people to spread the word. I think they will laugh, and they will cry and there’s just a little bit of something for everyone,” said Lucas.

General admission tickets are $15 each. Reserved seats are $25. Showtimes are at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets can be purchased at Gift & Gourmet, Keepers or at the Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce office. Online tickets can be purchased at TheTexas.org.
