Free breakfast, lunches now being served at Seguin ISD campuses

Summer meals being served for all area children

(Seguin) — School might be out for summer, but their cafeterias are still in full swing.  Families are reminded to take advantage of the free breakfast and summer lunch program being hosted at various campuses throughout the Seguin ISD.

Chief Communications Officer Sean Hoffmann says the program is open to any child between the ages of 1 to 18 years old.  He says the meals are being provided at a handful of schools and at one local non-profit organization.

“This program provides meals at several locations around town including Rodriguez Elementary School, Seguin High School, Ball Early Childhood Center, Jefferson Elementary School, Patlan Elementary School and at the Teatro de Artes. So, we have these six locations where breakfast and lunch are served basically Mondays through Fridays,” said Hoffmann.

Hoffmann says this free program is federally funded, and they invite all children to take advantage of the free meals whether they live in the Seguin ISD or not.

“There are no documentation requirements. We take children that fall within that age range. They don’t have to provide proof of enrollment in the Seguin ISD or proof of age or proof of residency. Just show up at any of these locations and enjoy a free meal. We are also offering breakfast and lunch for adults. However, there is a nominal fee and that’s $2.30 for breakfast and $4 for the lunch,” said Hoffmann.

Hoffmann says the menu varies each day and they ensure that all kids have access to nutritious meals throughout the summer.

Hoffmann again stresses that these meals are available to any family, and there are no income requirements.

“The menu offers a variety of different types of foods ranging from cereal to crispy chicken biscuits for breakfast. Spaghetti and meat sauce, pizza, hot dogs, patty melts at lunch time. So, there is a variety of food. We do have this information on our social media sites and as of Tuesday morning, all of our parents have received an email that list site information including the dates, locations, times and as well as a copy of the menu,” said Hoffmann.

The free summer breakfast and lunch program is currently up and running and will operate through July 29.

Those with specific questions about the summer food program are encouraged to contact the Seguin ISD’s Child Nutrition Department at 830-401-8636.
