A $100,000 prize on the line for the Guadalupe County Children's Advocacy Center

Residents encouraged to vote daily throughout the month of May in online contest

(Seguin) – Taking a few seconds out of your day each day in May might just determine whether a local-profit wins a $100,000 prize. The Guadalupe County Children’s Advocacy Center is one of five area non-profits selected to compete in the Ancira Gives Back $300,000 Giveaway contest.

To help celebrate Ancira’s Auto Group’s 50th Anniversary in San Antonio, the business has chosen to award a $100,000 prize to three non-profits in the San Antonio and South Texas area.
Christy Williams, who serves as the executive director for the children’s advocacy center, says she was surprised to learn on Monday that the group had even been nominated as one of the top five groups in the medium group category. She says the object of the contest is simple, those groups who collect the most online votes wins!

“It is the entire month of May, so we are asking people to go on the Ancira campaign and vote for the Guadalupe County Children’s Advocacy Center every single day in the month of May. You can have as many accounts as you have emails and just go in and vote for us every single day. We are trying to get the most votes in the medium category this month of May,” said Williams.
Williams says thanks to a board member who came across the contest, the group is at least in a position of being hopeful.

She says the group just at the end of April wrapped up its Champions for Courageous Kids Campaign – a campaign that unfortunately did not draw in the funds that she had hoped for.

“For one thing, it will help us reach the original goal of $50,000. We came at the end of April, got about $7,000. I know we have a few other donations coming towards that campaign. We might make it to $10,000 out of the $50,000. So, really fundraising has been incredibly difficult for us ever since COVID hit and we had to dip into our some of our reserves over these past few years and so really just ensuring that the work of the CAC continues on in the years and months to come. It would be an absolute Godsend if we were able to win these funds,” said Williams.

Williams says she not only hopes that people vote daily but that they encourage and continue to remind others to also vote daily for the Guadalupe County Children’s Advocacy Center.Williams says the process at first takes approximately 10 seconds – that’s imputing your name, email and zip code. She says after that, the process is even quicker if using the same device or email.
Williams says the center is competing with some other very popular groups that are based in San Antonio making the commitment for locals to vote daily even more important. The mission of the center is “to advocate for and provide services to abused children and their families in the investigation, prosecution, treatment, and prevention of child abuse, and to reduce the trauma to children by coordinating a multi-disciplinary approach.”

Children advocacy centers are rare throughout the state making what they do here locally very important.
