(Seguin) – Wheels will be hitting the streets this weekend as Seguin plays host to not one, two but three area car shows.
The trio of car shows, however, will most likely not be competing for entries as organizers say each are significant in its own way.
The first car show is the inaugural event for the Seguin High School Matador Band. The “Sounds of Seguin Car Show” will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Seguin ISD Administration parking lot located at 1221 E. Kingsbury St.
Festival Chair Jill Nash says there is still time to register your vehicle. She says band students are excited about rolling out a new series of awards and trophies.
“It’s going to be fun because we are including the kids So, we will have the Class of 22. Those kids will have a specific vote and that will be on that award and then we will have the wins. We will have one for Cologuard, Percussion and then one for all of the little kids. We will have just a Kids Choice. We will have a Fan Favorite. We’ve got the Driver’s Choice because they like to have a say in that as well,” said Nash.
Plus, she says participants and car enthusiasts will get to enjoy food, raffles and plenty of games.
“We will have a jumpy house, face painting, we will have live music with a DJ and then some of the high school band students will be able to play the Fight Song throughout the day so that the community can hear the band kids as well. We are also going to have a raffle so there will be items there that people can purchase tickets and put their tickets in the bucket where the raffle is lined up and you can choose which one you want to put your tickets in. Chick Fil will be on sight for food options so it’s going to be a pretty fun event,” said Nash.
Those interested are asked to sign-up that morning. Those with questions may email soundsofseguin@gmail.com.
The second car show is the 5th Annual Sons of The American Legion Squadron 245 Car and Bike Show. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the American Legion Post #245 parking lot located at 618 E. Kingsbury St.
Commander for the group Kevin Baker, says the group’s fundraiser invites a wide range of entries including bikes. More importantly, he says all the money raised will go to help support local veterans.
“Each year, it’s been getting better and better. We will have raffles going on, 50/50s going on and we also have trophies for the winners of each class. Generally, we have about 33 classes. It’s almost anything you can drive; you can enter from old cars to new cars to ex-military (vehicles). What we are trying to do here is promote goodwill for the community but also trying to take care of our veterans, so all of these funds go back into the community and back to taking care of our veterans,” said Baker.
Early registration is $25 an entry or $30 on the day of the event. Special prices for veterans are also being offered. They include $20 early or $25 on the day of the show. Specific questions on the car show can be answered by calling 210-410-4899.
The third car show of the day is being hosted by McQueeney Baptist Church. The church beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday will be hosting its 4th Annual Open Car show.
Waymon Williams, church member and coordinator for the event, says the car show is more of an outreach effort than a fundraiser.
“We want to get to know people in our area and when the ladies and gentlemen when they bring their cars that they want to put in the show, we are not charging them anything to put it in the show. Normally, you pay $25 to $30 to put your car in the show but we are not doing that. We just want to make it free for everybody to have fun. Now, we do have a little bit of food and we are just charging enough to cover our expenses with that,” said Williams.
In addition, Williams says the car show event will include plenty of family fun including live music.
“We’ve also got bouncing houses for the kids. We are going to have balloon twisting, face painting and then we are going to have McQueeney Baptist Church has a bluegrass band that plays every first and third Sunday and so the band is going to be handling all of the music for the car show and it will be live, and we’ve got a lot of our people lined up to sing for this show,” said Williams.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. Saturday. Williams may be contacted at 210-265-9200. McQueeney Baptist Church is located at 201 Schumann Rd.
