Seguin murder suspect apprehended in San Antonio

Draven Reyes changed his appearance, but he was still apprehended by authorities on Tuesday in San Antonio.

(Seguin) — The manhunt for the city’s latest murder suspect is finally over.

The Seguin Police Department is reporting the capture of Draven Rene Reyes, 20, of Seguin. Reyes currently sits in the Guadalupe County Jail in lieu of a $2 million bond.

The United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force apprehended Reyes just before 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. Reyes was taken into custody when he was found on the East Side of San Antonio.

Reyes was wanted on a warrant for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Murder. On Monday, April 4, 2022, the Seguin Police Department responded to Seguin’s Park West for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers found an 18-year-old male and an 18-year-old female of Seguin, with gunshot wounds. The male was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The female, Maekalyn Ann Marie Smith, was pronounced dead on the scene by Guadalupe County Justice of the Peace Sheryl Sachtleben.

The Seguin Police Department Criminal Investigation Division immediately began investigating the incident.

Through the investigation, detectives discovered that Reyes had fired multiple rounds at Smith and the male as they sat near the basketball court located along San Antonio Avenue.
The incident took place as Reyes drove by the park along with two other suspects Christanio Soto, 21 and Sahra Vega, 21, of Seguin.

Both Soto and Vega also face one count each of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and murder. Both are also behind bars with bonds totaling $1 million. The couple was taken into custody two days later on April 6.

Seguin Police Department officials say they would like to thank the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force, the Guadalupe County Constables Pct. 1 office, the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office, the Guadalupe County Narcotics Task Force, and the United States Customs and Border Protection for their assistance in this investigation.

Officials say investigations regarding the multiple shots fired calls will continue, and more arrests are anticipated. Anyone with information regarding these incidents is encouraged to call the Seguin Police Department at 911 or (830) -379-2123. Callers can also anonymously contact the Guadalupe County Crime Stoppers at 877-403-8477 (TIPS).
