(Seguin) — Members of the Seguin community will be leading a vigil this weekend in memory of 18-year-old Maekalyn Ann Marie Smith who was shot and killed Monday afternoon at Seguin’s Park West. The young woman became a victim following a rash of shootings that were reported in the community the last two weeks. Area churches, friends and family members will be gathering at the park to remember and celebrate the young woman’s life.
Smith had just completed her senior year at Seguin High School and was preparing to walk the stage this June. The family is asking that individuals wear purple or baby blue as they were her favorite colors. They also ask that no balloons be brought to the gathering. The vigil gets underway at 6 p.m. Sunday near the basketball courts. The family has asked for a police presence to help ensure the safety of those attending.
