(Seguin) – A local church is inviting you over for lunch this weekend. Members of the Celebrate Recovery Program at Crossroads Church are hosting a fundraising fish fry from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
Jeremy Wallace, who heads the Celebrate Recovery Program, says the meal invitation is for anyone in the community.
“They’ll get a to-go box full of catfish. We are going to make catfish and it’s going to be on a bed of French fries with two hushpuppies, pinto beans, and coleslaw and that’s $10 worth of food right there and we are also going to be doing a raffle as well. So, if you fill out your name and your phone number on your little ticket stub to tear off from the bottom, you can enter to win one of those items from our raffle drawing later that day,” said Wallace.
Wallace says the fish fry fundraiser is important for the newly formed program – a program he says helps to bring peace to peoples’ lives.
“Celebrate Recovery is a Christ centered 12 Step Recovery Program for anyone struggling with a hurt, a pain, or an addiction of any kind. Celebrate Recovery is a safe place to find community and freedom from issues that are controlling our lives. A lot of times when people first hear about Celebrate Recovery, they glance over that Recovery thing and think oh maybe it’s Christian AA. I would say it really opens the door to all of life’s issues such as grief, loss, financial troubles – and so it’s just a safe place to go and share about our week and then in doing that in that repetitious sharing about our week, we discover things that hey maybe I can do this a little bit different or God just reveals things like that to us,” said Wallace.
Proceeds from the benefit will go directly to help fund as many individual trips as possible to this year’s Celebrate Recovery Program Summit in Dallas. The summit will be held July 20-22 at the TD Jakes Ministries — Potters’s House Church.
Crossroads Church is located at 3455 W. US Highway 90.
The Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce is also giving residents the chance to kick off the weekend with a fish fry of its own. The chamber will be hosting its annual Flippin Fish Fry Drive-Thru fundraiser on Friday at the Seguin Elks Lodge. The meal which includes cod will be served from 5 to 8 p.m. Plates are $15 each.
