Navarro baseball smokes eight extra-base hits in run-rule win over Devine
(Geronimo) – The Panthers drilled six doubles and two triples Tuesday night to notch a 14-4 home win over Devine in five innings.
Tristan Brashears led the offensive onslaught with three doubles and drive RBIs. Jacob Frederick hit both of the triples, scored two runs, and drove in three.

The Panthers ended up with 13 total hits on the night and erupted for seven runs in the second inning to erase an early 2-0 deficit.
Head coach Kris Cavazos credited his hitters for adjusting to both the Devine pitching staff and a relentless south wind blowing in from left field.
“Our guys took great approaches today,” Cavazos said. “We’ve been really working on that a lot at practice, going with the ball to right field, hitting that outside pitch, and giving them confidence to let them know they can do that. Six doubles and two triples, and six of them were to the right side, and two were pulled, so that’s just tells them that they’re buying into the approach, and they’re swinging it really well right now”
Jaxen Monkerud earned the win on the mound. Only two of the four runs he allowed were earned. Monkerud scattered six hits with three strikeouts and two walks in five innings.
“He’s starting to get into the groove,” Cavazos said. “He’s starting to trust his defense a little more, even through it’s hard with the season that we’ve had with so many errors, but he did an excellent job tonight. He’s not going to be satisfied, because he probably didn’t have enough strikeouts, but he’s learning at the next level he’s going to have to do that. He’s going to have to pitch to contact and let his guys work. He did an excellent job today. It was probably one of his best performances.”
Monkerud combined with the shortstop Nall and and the first baseman Taylor to turn a 1-6-3 double play in the top of the sixth inning.
Navarro (13-8) hosts Hondo on Friday at 7 p.m.
