Kingsbury, Luling area homes hit by tornado

(Kingsbury) — At least three homes were badly damaged and in some cases destroyed Monday afternoon after a confirmed tornado in the Kingsbury area.

Patrick Pinder, the Guadalupe County Emergency Management Coordinator and Fire Marshal, says a severe line of thunderstorms reportedly produced the tornado east of Seguin at around 5:15 p.m.

Just three minutes earlier, warning sirens were sounded throughout the community after the National Weather Service issued a thunderstorm warning capable of producing a tornado, strong winds and large size hail.

At 5:40 p.m. Pinder had not heard of any official reports of a tornado, but within the next half hour, his office had already received its first report. He stated, “We had a report of someone trapped, but they are out now.”

From then on, he says all other reports began coming into his office. By, the 6 o’ clock hour, they had already received two dozen reports via email. Three of those reports included the homes located on Appling Road and Wood Center. Pinder says the families of those homes were displaced. The American Red Cross was called in to assist. He says luckily, no serious injuries were reported.

Today, Pinder says they’ll begin to get a closer assessment of the damage. Meanwhile, he asks that anyone who sustained damage from the storms notify his office as soon as possible. They are encouraged to email his office at emc@co.guadalupe.tx.us. The emailed reports should include name, address, phone number, the type of damages, the estimated value of that damage and whether or not they had insurance.
