(Guadalupe County) – Seguin’s James Medrano, Josh Soliz, Aidan Flores, and Michael Martinez, along with Navarro’s Marcos Perez-Garcia and Isaac Zamora, and Marion’s Bode Walters, will all advance to their respective classifications’ THSPA state powerlifting meets after competing at the regional level this past weekend.
For Seguin in Region 2 Division I, Medrano, Soliz, Flores, and Martinez all lifted state qualifying totals during the season. In the regional competition, Medrano finished seventh in the 114 class with a total of 850 lbs. (330 squat, 180 bench, 340 dead lift). Soliz took third in the 132 class with 1,100 lbs. (430 squat, 260 bench, 410 dead lift). Flores finished fourth in the 148 class with 1,210 lbs. (460 squat, 275 bench, 475 dead lift). Martinez took seventh in the 181 class with 1,350 lbs. (495 squat, 355 bench, 500 dead lift).
Navarro’s Perez-Garcia and Zamora each finished second in their respective weight classes at the Region 4 Division 2 championships. In the 123 class, Perez-Garcia lifted 955 lbs. (345 squat, 255 bench, 355 dead lift). In the 165 class, Zamora totaled 1,230 lbs. (490 squat, 285 bench, 455 dead lift).
Marion’s Walters finished second in the 308 class at the Region 4 Division 3 meet. He lifted a total of 1,615 lbs with a regional record squat of 700 lbs to go with a 390 lb. bench press and 525 lb. dead lift.
