Seguin invited to annual Noche De Gala

(Seguin) – The lush string sounds and powerful lyrics of traditional mariachi music returns to Texas Lutheran University this weekend for the 37th Annual Noche De Gala Showcase. The longstanding tradition hosted by Teatro De Artes De Juan Seguin is set for 7 p.m. Saturday at TLU’s Jackson Auditorium.

Teatro Program Coordinator Alejandro Guerra says the audience will again be dazzled by performances from Teatro’s very own Mariachi Juan Seguin and Ballet Folklórico De La Rosa, and the world-renowned all-female musicians from Mariachi Las Alteñas de San Antonio, Tejas.

He says Teatro is excited about bringing all the local talent to one mainstage this weekend. Plus, he says topping the performance line-up for the very first time will be the award-winning Seguin High School Mariachi Matador.

“Our graduating Ballet Folklórico De La Rosa Seniors: Jesse Arias, Erica Bennett, and Elizabeth Dominguez, will be performing a traditional piece accompanied by Mariachi Juan Seguin. The seniors are under the artistic direction of Dr. Yvonne M. De La Rosa. Our Mariachi Juan Seguin will light up the stage with a few musical pieces and they are under the musical direction of, Rafael Alarcon, Jr., Julian Arizola, and Carla Medina. For the first time ever the award winning, Seguin High School Mariachi Matador, will don the stage at the Noche De Gala and we could not be happier. Last, but not least, the headliner of the evening will be the high energy, high powered, world renowned, Mariachi Las Alteñas. They will bring to the stage a show you will go home raving about, said Sulema J. Silva, Teatro Board President.”

The cultural art center says this year’s program coincides with Raices Musicales – Los Y Las Mariachis along with the Mariachi Girl theater program slated to debut at 7 p.m. Friday, June 10 at Jackson Auditorium. The summer showcase will help illustrate Teatro’s celebration of the timeless art form of mariachi music and how it transitioned away from traditional gender roles into the mainstream culture.

Guerra says they are ready to share with the community and surrounding communities the talent that Seguin fosters and encourages residents to purchase their tickets as soon as possible.

General admission tickets are $10 a person. They can be purchased online at https://bit.ly/37thNDGTickets or in person by stopping by the Teatro De Artes Cultural Arts Center located at 921 W. New Braunfels St. Tickets will be available Friday at Teatro from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A limited number of tickets will be sold at the door.

Those attending are advised that masks and/or face coverings are required inside of TLU’s Jackson Auditorium for this event.
