(Seguin) – Voters are allowing longtime Guadalupe County Clerk Teresa Kiel to hang on to her seat. Kiel was re-elected during Tuesday’s Republican Primary Election.
Kiel picked up the Republican nomination by defeating political newcomer Stacy A. Melton. Kiel does not face a Democratic challenger in November providing her the opportunity for another full term.
Kiel received 8, 253 of the votes cast or 63 percent while Melton received 4,910 of the votes cast or 37 percent of the vote.
Kiel appreciates those who came out to the polls to show their support and says she is thankful to continue a job that she loves deeply.
“I’m so honored and so blessed and so, so thankful to the voters of Guadalupe County for having the belief in me to continue of being their Guadalupe County Clerk. I promise to continue to work hard for them and make them proud every day. I also want to thank my staff, my employees. They are wonderful people. They have such dedication to the job, and they know I have high standards which are so hard to compete with, but they have high standards as well and they never let me down. Every day they work hard for me, so I really really appreciate it. Thank you to everyone. I am honored and I am so blessed,” said Kiel.
Melton was unavailable for comment following Tuesday night’s results.
Kiel has served as the county clerk for over 19 years.
