Lorris Nelson Redix, affectionately known as “Nana”, was born on July 8, 1920, in the Wash Creek Community. She was the daughter of the late R. J. Nelson, Sr., and the late Ida Erskine Nelson. She passed away on February 17, 2022, at the age of 101.
She attended New Birth in the Wash Creek Community, where she accepted God as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She served as a faithful member of Holy Temple Church of God in Christ for many years and later went on to serve as the Mother of Galatians Church of God in Christ.
She later went on to marry Johnny Redix, Sr., in 1938. To their union, three children were born. She attended Wash Creek School. She worked in hospitality, cooking and serving food in different restaurants throughout the Seguin area. She retired from the Aumont Café.
She went on to take care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, which was one of her life’s greatest joys.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Redix, Sr.; her children, Johnny James Redix, Jr., Maggie B. Cockrum, and Milton Redix; her granddaughter, Jacqueline Lynn Adams Redix; her mother, Ida Erskine Nelson; father, R. J. Nelson, Sr.; her siblings, Jenny Nelson Johnson, Reverend Roy Nelson, Jesse James Nelson, Sr., R. J. Nelson, Jr., and Ida Mae Nelson Freeman. She leaves to cherish her memory: her grandchildren, Brenda Joyce Kelly, Kenneth Redix, La-Vee Redix Simmons “Terry”, and Kevin Redix (Jennifer); her great-grandchildren, Chanel Toya Cochran Lee “Chrischaun”, Terry Simmons, Jr. “Ida”, Trey-Vel Simmons, Trent Simmons, Jacqueline Redix, Keslynn Redix, and Lillian Redix; many great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Emma Nelson Foster; and many nieces and nephews.
