(Seguin) – It’s time to lock down your love and throw away the key, Seguin!
Owners and operators of The Backyard, one of Seguin’s newest premiere spots for shopping, dining, and outdoor fun, are inviting you to take part in what they hope will be the community’s newest tradition, “Locked in Love” Seguin.
Molly Rojas, one of the co-owners of the establishment, says the idea is to place a lock of your choosing along the fence line of the former Lizzie M. Burges campus located on North Saunders Street.
“I saw online where they have for couples to come and express their love, but we were discussing how to bring the community out to celebrate any occasion, any milestone, accomplishment, remember a loved one, or honor your pet, your family, anything. The reasons are endless. So, it’s free. You can bring your own lock. We have a couple to purchase at the sports bar. Just write on it and come and hang it on there anytime that you’d like – any time, any day, 24/7. I just think that if the community comes out and participates, I think it will be a great thing,” said Rojas.
Rojas says over the years, other communities have launched a similar concept but for Seguin, it’s all about bringing the community together.
“San Antonio on the Riverwalk near Marriage Island, they have a Love Lock Bridge. Paris has it, Paris France, Dallas does it – everybody has a different name for it, but I figured ‘you know what? Why not us?” said Rojas.
Rojas says beginning today, individuals and families can begin placing their locks and tossing away the keys. They are also encouraged to initial the lock or write a message of their choosing.
“Right now, we just have a limited amount. If it takes off and people purchase, we will get more but you are always welcomed to bring your own, any type. It doesn’t matter. We’re going to have a whiskey barrel set out there. It’s got a slot and your key will be there locked away forever,” said Rojas.
Rojas says what better time than Valentine’s Day weekend to help kick off Seguin’s newest tradition of showing and expressing the love that exist in this community.
“With the pandemic happening, we have all been through a lot and it’s just a way to celebrate or express,” said Rojas.
A limited number of locks are available for purchase. The locks are $10 each. Again, locks do not need to be purchased at the business but can be brought from home.
The Backyard is located at 225 N. Saunders St.
