(Seguin) — Two sets of good Samaritans are not going unnoticed in Guadalupe County.

Guadalupe County Sheriff Arnold Zwicke recently recognized four brave men who came to the rescue of two deputies in two separate incidents in December.

Zwicke publicly recognized all four men during a recent meeting of the Guadalupe County Commissioners Court.

Zwicke says the first incident recognizes the heroic efforts of Miguel Gonzalez who was headed home to San Antonio from Houston.

“The first incident was Dec. 2 along a busy stretch of I-10 East of Seguin where Cpl. (Wesley) Doss was attempting to take a subject into custody for a human trafficking charge. Cpl. Doss had the subject pinned against the vehicle unable to get him handcuffed. Without regard for his own safety, Miguel Gonzalez stopped and assisted Cpl. Doss until two deputy constables arrived to help take him into custody,” said Zwicke.

Zwicke says the second incident was also reported in December. He says the decision to intervene by brothers 17-year-old Ty, 16-year-old Jake Stevens and passerby William Silcox again helped protect one of his deputies.

“The second incident was Dec. 27 on FM 1117 where dispatch sent Senior Deputy (Kyle) Faulkner to check on a suspicious vehicle parked in the roadway. Deputy Faulkner located the deranged man who was obviously having a mental crisis. Deputy Faulkner tried to reason with this man for nearly 45 minutes before the man became uncooperative leading to a struggle. While Deputy Faulkner was able to control this subject, he was unable to take him into custody. At this point, Mr. William Silcox was driving by and stopped to assist Deputy Faulkner along with two individuals who lived nearby who came running to help us as well. These individuals were Ty and Jake Stevens. The subject was taken by Seguin EMS to the hospital for emergency detention,” said Zwicke.

Zwicke says the extension of thanks is on behalf of not only his department but of all the residents in Guadalupe County.

“We are fortunate to live and work in Guadalupe County, Texas where people still respect and support law enforcement and without regard for their own safety jumped in to assist. They didn’t pull out their phone and start videoing the incident in hopes the officer would do something wrong or stand there and cheer the combative subject on,” said Zwicke.

Commissioner Greg Seidenberger says he too is grateful for these men who risked their lives without any hesitation.

Each of the men were also honored with a plaque presentation at Tuesday’s meeting.
