Summary of March Primary election races being provided


Candidates, locally, statewide seeking Republican or Democratic Nomination

(Seguin) – Campaigning season is officially underway in Guadalupe County. Several races have made it onto both the Republican and Democratic March Primary ballots.
However, there are no locally contested races on the Democratic ballot. Of the 14 local Republican nomination races, only four of them are contested.

The first of those races is Guadalupe County District Clerk. Incumbent Linda Balk faces challenger Shelly Saldivar-Sposari for the nomination and essentially the position since again, there are no Democratic challengers for these county races in November.

Next is the contested race for County Clerk. Incumbent Teresa Kiel looks to take on Stacy A. Melton for the countywide position.

Three candidates will also be campaigning for the Guadalupe County Commissioner Precinct 4 seat. Challenging Incumbent Judy Cope for that position are candidates Stephen Germann and Joel Hicks.

The final locally contested race appearing on the Republican ballot is Justice of the Peace Precinct 1. Incumbent Darrell Hunter also faces two other candidates for his place at the bench. Those candidates include Kelly M Cross and Sam “Saundra” Meyer.

Voters will also be choosing their candidates in a number of statewide positions which include the race for Governor, Lt. Governor and Attorney General.

Some of the noted campaigns that include specific representation of all or parts of Guadalupe County and that are contested for either the Republican or Democratic nomination this March include the race for U.S. Representative District 15, U.S. Representative District 28, Member State Board of Education District 5 and State Senator, District 25.

Sample ballots so that voters can preview what candidates they’ll be choosing are now available on the Guadalupe County Elections’ website. That website is co.guadalupe.tx.us.
They are encouraged to print out a copy for review.

Those needing a sample ballot but unable to access a copy are asked stop by the election’s office in Seguin at 215 S. Milam St. or the office in Schertz at 1101 Elbel Rd. The Seguin office can be reached by calling 830-303-6363.

The Primary Election is scheduled for Tuesday, March 1. Early voting begins on Monday, Feb. 14 and runs through Friday, Feb. 25.
