Navarro girls dominate Gonzales
(Geronimo) – Navarro girls basketball earned it second straight District 27-4A win in dominant fashion Tuesday night, rolling past Gonzales 87-29 at the Navarro Events Center in Geronimo.

Tatum Harborth poured in 22 points to lead all scorers, and Laylin Sturm chipped in with 21. Tegan Harborth also reached double figures with 17 points.

Karlee Koenig added six points, Ryanne Hepp and JJ Martinez five apiece, Sienna Kramer and Taylor Helms four each, and Berklee Andrews three.

The Panthers led 46-16 at halftime and never looked back.

The Navarro girls, ranked No. 18 in the TABC state poll for Class-4A and 24th by the TGCA, moved their district record to 2-1 and the overall mark to 25-5.

The Panthers hit the road for a district game against Cuero on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Navarro boys come up short to Gonzales

(Gonzales) – Navarro dropped to 0-2 in the District 27-4A boys basketball race with a 70-63 road loss to Gonzales on Tuesday.

The Apaches jumped out to a 17-9 lead in the first quarter, but the Panthers recovered to win the second period 20-11 and take a 29-28 lead into halftime.

Gonzales outscored Navarro 23-14 in the third period to build an eight-point cushion, and the Panthers weren’t able to get over the hump in the fourth quarter.

Caleb Standlee led Navarro with 17 points, and Caleb Thomas reached double figures with 10.

Ryland Ward and Kaden Monkerud contributed nine points apiece, Justin Hawes six, Brody Whitson and Seth Rodriguez four each, and Nik Knight two.

The Panthers (11-15, 0-2) host Cuero at the Navarro Events Center on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Marion boys cruise past Luling to third straight district win

(Luling) – Senior guard Ryken Autry scored at least 30 points for the third consecutive game to help Marion notch a 56-39 road win over Luling on Tuesday in District 26-3A.

Autry hit 30 on the nose, connecting on 10-18 field goal attempts while going 3-8 from three and 7-8 at the free throw line. He also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and came up with three steals.

Dominic Castellanos gave the Bullldogs a spark with 15 points on 6-11 shooting and a team-high three assists.

Castellanos and Jon Padron each had two steals. Fernando Romero contributed three points, Richard Rayos two.

Marion led 15-7 at the end of the first quarter, 31-23 at halftime, and 46-28 heading into the fourth period.

The Bulldogs are 3-2 in district play, 18-6 overall. Marion hosts Randolph in a district game on Friday at 8 p.m.

Marion girls roll in district road win over Luling
(Luling) – Marion used a stifling defensive effort that included two shutout quarters to open the second round of the District 26-3A girls basketball schedule with a 47-13 road win over Luling on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 15-3 lead in the first period and held the Eagles scoreless in the second to take a 25-3 cushion into halftime.

Marion won the third quarter 13-10, building the lead to 38-13, and kept Luling off the scoreboard in a 9-0 fourth period to notch the final margin.

Sarah Cook led all scorers and matched Luling’s point total by herself with 13 points. She also contributed seven rebounds and three steals.

Jaslyne Williams and Breelon Allen each netted eight points, and Allen pulled down a team-high nine rebounds. Williams collected three steals.

Laney Osborne distributed a team-best four assists to go with three points.

Signe Rabenaldt added six points, Kamryn Parsons five, and Kendra Ross four. Ross made a big impact defensively with a team-leading four steals.

Marion is 4-2 in district play, 11-15 on the season.

The Bulldogs look to complete a head-to-head district sweep of Randolph when they host the Ro-Hawks on Friday at 6:30 p.m. Marion won the first meeting in Universal City 45-42 on Dec. 17.
