Navarro boys build momentum for district slate with wins over Fox Tech, Hondo

(San Antonio, Hondo) – Navarro finished up the non-district portion of its boys basketball schedule with a pair of impressive road wins in the span of three days, edging Fox Tech 60-50 in San Antonio on Saturday and outlasting Hondo 53-50 on Monday.

The Panthers have overcome the adversity of a 2-11 start and a mid-season coaching change to win nine of their last 11 games and push the overall record to 11-13 heading into district play.

Ryland Ward scored 14 points to lead Navarro against Fox Tech. Marcos Soto also reached double figures with 13.

Caleb Thomas added seven points, Kaden Monkerud and Ryatt Kluckman six apiece, Nikolas Knight five, Nick Billings three. The Panthers got two points each from Benton Stanley, Justin Hawes, and Mason Tate.

Jaden Deleon netted 18 points to lead Fox Tech. The Buffaloes led 22-14 at the end of the first quarter, but Navarro won the second period 20-9 to take a 34-31 lead into halftime. The Panthers outscored Fox Tech 13-9 in the third period and 13-10 in the fourth to pull away for the 10-point win.

Individidual stats from Monday’s win over Hondo were not available at press time.

Navarro opens the District 27-4A schedule Friday with a 6:30 p.m. home game at the Navarro Events Center against Pleasanton, the No. 21 ranked 4A team in the TABC’s state poll.
