Let there soon be light in Barky Park

Let there soon be light in Barky Park

(Seguin) — Dog owners may soon get a few more hours to enjoy the city’s dog park in Max Starcke Park. The facility, better known as Barky Park, is a popular location inside the larger community park. But dog owners have complained about the lack of lighting, which limits the hours in which the dog park can be used.

Councilman Mark Herbold recently brought up this issue, and city staff is already responding to those concerns. Parks and Recreation Director Jack Jones says they will soon be able to bring lighted areas to the dog park. Jones says he expects the lights to be installed in the dog park soon.

“The lights are here. There are just no brackets. It’s a whole supply side thing and all that. They were supposed to be here today, but apparently it will be the end of the month. We are going to try to find another source. But the bottom line is, the lights are coming to light up Barky Park, hopefully by the end of the month or hopefully sooner if we are lucky. It’s not going to be ball field lights, like you can go out at play baseball (at night). These are dog park lights. It’s enough to where you can see where you are stepping,” said Jones.

The lights, once installed, are expected to turn on at dusk, and then remain on until 10:00 each night.

Barky Park is located on the west side of Max Starcke Park in an area that once housed a putt-putt golf course.
