Seguin teams sweep Dripping Springs in district hoops action


(Seguin) – Seguin carved its first notch in the District 26-5A boys basketball win column with authority on Tuesday, rolling past Dripping Springs 79-54 at Goldie Harris Gym. The Seguin girls snapped a two-game district slide the same night with a 51-45 road win over Dripping Springs.

Junior forward Kevon Williams poured in a varsity career-high 30 points to lead the Matadors in the boys game.

John Jackson added 18 points, and Devin Matthews reached double figures with 14.

Jakyari Matthews contributed eight points, John Jones five, J’Dohn Cannon-High and Jeffrey Rodriguez two apiece.

Seguin led 21-12 at the end of the first quarter and doubled up the Tigers 18-9 in the second period to build a 39-21 halftime margin.

The Mats denied any hopes of a Dripping Springs rally with a 22-13 advantage in the third quarter to carry a 27-point cushion into the fourth.

The win moves the Seguin boys to 1-4 in district play, 8-14 overall. The Matadors head to San Antonio to face Alamo Heights on Friday at 6:45 p.m.

Individual stats from the Seguin girls’ road win over Dripping Springs were not available at press time. The win pushed the Matadors back above .500 in district play at 4-3, and the overall record to 15-12.
