(Seguin) — A longtime member of the local legal community is being honored for her many years of service to the people of Guadalupe County. The Guadalupe County Commissioners Court recently recognized Elizabeth Jandt for all of the work that she has done on behalf of the county and its citizens.
Guadalupe County Court-at-Law Judge No. 2 Kirsten Legore led the presentation recognizing Jandt and her retirement from practicing law. Legore says Jandt served in a number of capacities over the years, including several years as county attorney.
“When I found out she was retiring and really knwoing her history of the county, that goes back to when I was sworn-in. I found out that she had been the county attorney forever — from 1968 until 1992. Then she was in private practice, and while in private practice, she still continued to serve the population and the community here in Guadalupe County, because she served on every specialty court that she could,” said Legore.
Serving on those specialty courts for all those years, shows the passion that Jandt had for the law and justice. Judge Legore says it’s further evidence that she was called to do this work, and to offer her service to people of this county.
“When I was a prosecutor, she was part of the team for juvenile drug court. She was also part of the team for adult drug court, which now I preside over, so life is interestingly (come) full circle. And she’s also worked with the veterans court. So any opportunity that she has had, (she served). This is not where she is making a lot of money. So very much I appreciate her service for Guadalupe County, and I knew the commissioners court would as well,” said Legore.
Jandt was on hand for the presentation last week, and spoke a bit about how things have changed a great deal since she first started practicing law.
“I started practicing law in 1963. At that time, when I started practicing law, there were not many women in the law field. In fact, you could almost count (them) on two hands in the whole state of Texas,” said Jandt.
The court said it wanted to formally recognize Jandt for her many decades of service to the community and to wish her well in her retirement.
